The ancient ruined castle was built high atop a tall lonely mountain spire. Below the remnants of some sort of gate, its round arches fallen to the effects of time. Who lived there and what purpose the gate served is a mystery. The adventurers head down into the valley below to set up camp. They have no idea how long it may take to fully explore this ancient site.

About Making the Art
2020 was hard for everyone. We all had our challenges and our journey. I pretty much stopped making art for most of 2020. I just didn’t have the drive, didn’t have the community, didn’t have the head space. As we entered 2021 I did some cyberpunk illustrations for our play group and then this image hit me. A castle on a tall spire. Sometimes art is a struggle to realize, this one just poured out of me. I wasn’t sure what this place was, or who lived there, but it existed and had to be recorded. I think I painted this in under a week, which is pretty quick for me.
Sometimes, when I do art for the Dark Return it is like I am merely visiting these places and drawing what I see.
About Michael Bielaczyc
Michael Bielaczyc has been working professionally in the art field since 2001 when he founded Aradani Studios with his brother Paul. Together they have exhibited across America selling both their artwork and costuming. He works in many mediums from oil paint to latex prosthetics, video to graphite.
In 2012, Michael started Lone Wanderer Entertainment with his long time friend Dane Clark Collins to publish books based in their dark fantasy world – Atheles. Since then he has authored 4 books and created the SagaBorn RPG system.
